OUR STORY

Success With Age and Guidance was founded in the summer of 2011 by a group of racialized youth who either lived or worked in the community of Malton. The young men identified that there was a need in the community for positive youth peer to peer and adult mentors and that there was a lack of positive youth spaces for youth males to gather, learn, share and connect. They applied for their first successful grant from the United Way of Peel Region and Region of Peel’s Community development Grant and ran the first cohort in 2013. Since then the initiative has grown its reach and impact in the Peel community as it has scaled to multiple communities across Peel as it aims to empower an entire generation of engaged youth leaders from the Peel community. The co-founding members shared a common vision, understanding and belief that lives on throughout the initiative which is to always recognize the assets in youth regardless of the obstacles that they are facing, and support them to utilize their talents, skills, experiences and strengths positively for success.

WHY

Youth more specifically racialized male youth face multiple complex barriers in society. These barriers cause youth to grow in isolation and without guidance or support which forces them to make decisions on their own that may be detrimental to their well being and their future aspirations. Through our program we aim to provide youth with a safe space for mentorship, creative dialogue, learning and skill development.
